GUINNESS last night revealed plans to launch a new brew . . . which is RED.
The drink will be made from lightly roasted barley and will go on trial at pubs in the UK over the next few months.
But the firm — who famously used the catchphrase Guinness Is Good For You — said there are no plans yet to put Guinness Red into cans or bottles for sale in shops.
There are currently three Guinness variants selling in the UK — Draught, Original and Foreign Extra Stout.
Guinness Red is the first major new launch since Extra Cold was introduced in pubs in 1999. Guinness is known for its dark black colour and distinctive white head. The strength of the new drink will be comparable with the standard beer, around 4.1 per cent.
Spokeswoman Katrina Ward said: “We can confirm we are currently working on an innovation called Guinness Red. It is a new variant of Guinness, lightly roasted for a rich red colour and a well-balanced bitter sweet character..
